Friday Video Feature: Erin Scott

"Deep breath in....Deep breath out"

UBCO "Battle on the Hill" runner up Erin Scott smashes the crowd with her slick and clever humor. The crowd hangs on every word as she paints the most hilarious imagery in their minds.
Then it strikes you. Underneath the humor and levity of her words, there is always a deep commentary. A pain or hurt that many feel. A social standard that begs to be re-written.

Inspirational quote of the week with Jessica Laplante

"There is a pleasure in the pathless woods
There is a rapture on the lonely shore;
There is a society, where none intrudes,
By the deep sea, and music in its roar: I love not man the less, but nature more." -Lord Byron

This quote was from the movie Into the wild. If you haven't seen this old movie, I highly recommend it, if you are not a free spirit, it will definitely invoke that in you. This quote  reflects to me how rewarding it is to create your own path in life because when you do, you may discover many things you may have not experienced otherwise. As the character in the movie follows his own path, he rejects the demands of his parents and society of what he should be doing with his life or what career he should have, instead he ends up living on his own in the woods.  As a fellow hiker, I can relate to the love of making new trails in the mountains and exploring new peaks and valleys, you never know what you will see around each mountain peak. Nature has his own laws and society which is in perfect balance and when immersed in it, you discover you are not separate from it, you are part of the whole.

The whole meaning of the movie for me and the quote is that the experiences you have in the wilderness are so rewarding and healing, however, these experiences are better when you can share them with another.
