Springfield vs. Shelbyville Poetry Slam - Meet the Sponsors

Kelowna Sound Rentals

Providing all of our sound equipment and one of their awesome Sound Technicians is the team over at Kelowna Sound Rentals. We can't express enough how important sound quality is to successful events! Not just for music, but also for clarity of speaking voices when you know, you host a poetry slam or something. In the past, our sound has been a little wonky and we are so appreciative to have a team of professionals coming in to keep us crisp.

Check out their services and give them a shout for your next event.

For now, let's get to know Kelowna Sound Rentals a little better with some questions.

Back Door Winery

Rawle first connected with this Summerland based winery and man I have to be honest, its challenging not to make a million inappropriate jokes inspired by their name. But I will behave because this lovely, intimate winery has offered up bottles of wine for all of the poets competing on January 27th. We strive to always pay our poets, but in lieu of this possibility, having community partners who can say thank you in other ways is a wonderful gift. Check out the amazing winery and get out of Kelowna to show your support and love for Team Shelbyville by repping this Summerland winery.

Arts Council of the Central Okanagan

Katie Brennan is a fantastic visual artist, friend of IWC, and President of the Arts Council for the Central Okanagan. When she came to IWC and said "Let's do something sweet together!" we could not turn her down. Without the generous support of ARTSCo, the madness of Springfield vs. Shelbyville would not be possible. Check out all the work they are up to around the Okanagan Valley and don't forget to nominate your favourite artists for the 10th Annual Okanagan Arts Awards in May.

Big Changes for IWC

As many of our community members know, Inspired Word Cafe recently moved our shows up to UBCO Campus for the 2016/17 Seventh Season. Things were rough to begin, with both parties having full workloads and limited time for open communication, delays in programming, and that kind of tension you just don't need in your life. After much contemplation between our Board of Directors, we decided we could not continue to host shows at the Well and have a working relationship with the UBCSUO.

With our new found freedom to do as we like, we are taking our show BACK DOWNTOWN, to the newly opened Bean Scene! Starting this Thursday, October 6th at 7:00pm, we will be doing a once a month open mic/open slam show that is OPEN TO ALL AGES, $5 to get in, and first come, first up on stage sign-up sheet (for both the open mic and the open slam).

We truly value our time and energy spent creating a wonderful community and felt our best interests were in moving away from possible drama. We want to write poems, not fight about them. We hope you will all spread the word and continue loving on IWC as we get in to the fun of Season 7.
